Mrs. Bell's Tea Room

This is a cute tea room and gift shop with lots of beautiful tea cups. However, I had Afternoon Tea here last week and the food was not good. I feel I need to balance out the reviews here to provide another opinion (I have been to 50+ afternoon teas in the past 12 months so I have a lot to compare to). To start: the bread of the sandwiches was starting to stale. The scones were chewy and not enjoyable like a cakey flaky scone could be. The sweets were underbaked (cookie) and generally did not taste good (petit four / peach cake). Believe it or not, the clotted cream we were served was rancid (past expiry, old, soured) and I tried it 3 times to make sure I wasn't confused. I let the owner know about the rancid cream but she did not seem to concerned and was unable to give us butter instead (how do they not have butter on site?). It is likely the sweets & scones are made off-site and brought in but they really do not taste good. There are better afternoon tea options in Ontario so until food improvements are made here you should choose another tea room. The price point here is low for afternoon tea in Ontario ($30 per person) but still not worth this price.

I brought my kids to experience afternoon tea. We had a nice time, the setting reminds me of being at granny's which is cute. Miss Bell was very attentive and friendly, she brought the kids hot chocolate in cute little pots, and they got to bring home a cup and saucer which was very generous. The food was just OK, the sandwiches were your typical tuna and egg salad, the cucumber was very bland, the cherry was something new but i wasn't very keen on it. None of the food really stuck out for me, it wasnt bad just meh. I'd like to try again when the menu is different.

Funny when some people "feel a need to balance out reviews" whatever gives your life purpose I guess. I had a lovely time at Mrs Bell's tea room with my mother. Service is warm and friendly. The owner clearly has a passion for being the highlight of your day. Looking forward to returning again and again!
